The ABC’s of Green Building to be discussed at the April Monthly Meeting of the GPBA

Join the Greater Plymouth Builders Association at the April Meeting, 4/23/2012, Ernie’s Restaurant in North Plymouth, MA for a discussion about green building.  Nicole Goldman of the ‘g ‘ Design Center will be the speaker.  Her topic, The ABC’s of Green Building,  introduces the diverse concepts of green building and connect these concepts to the tools contractors already use in their daily building practices. A clear picture of how to transform each project into a green remodeling effort through simple adaptations on design, materials and techniques. From framing and insulation, to properly sized HVAC and certification programs.  Nicole will provide how-to green remodeling basics with a question and answer session to follow for more in depth discussion.

The ‘g’ Green Design Center is a green building showroom and design center working with homeowners, builders, architects, and businesses creating eco-friendly, energy-efficient, healthy environments using sustainable materials at affordable prices.

Greater Plymouth Builders Announce Spring Continuing Education Class Schedule

The Greater Plymouth Builders Association has announced it’s Spring educational classes for members and the public.  Many classes have been approved for CEU’s toward the new continuing education requirement for Contractors with a Construction Supervisors License.  Beginning July 2011, any license that is renewed will be subject to the new law and contractors will have to attend approved classes and obtain up to 12 CEU’s before their next license renewal will be granted.  The Greater Plymouth Builders Association will be providing a number of classes in the evenings and on Saturdays that meet this requirement.  All classes are open to the public. GPBA Announces September Meeting

GPBA receives CSL Continuing Education Coordination Approval

The Greater Plymouth Builders Association has been certified as a Continuing Education Coordinator for the Contractor’s Supervisors License (CSL) by the Board of Building Regulations and Standards of the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety.  The GPBA has been instrumental in bringing education for the trades to the Plymouth area and has run a number of programs since its formation in January.   

“This is very exciting for our membership”, says Deb Doherty, President and Founder of the Association, “This will help us meet one of our main goals, which is to provide education and training locally for the trade”.    The group can now offer courses and programs that will provide builders with CEU’s toward CSL license requirements.  “Stay tuned” says Nancy OKeefe, Education Coordinator for the Association, “We are working this summer to create a great education line up for the fall”.

Every year, work related falls are a leading cause of death in the workplace. Besides loss of life, employers also lose millions of dollars in other fall related expenses. A comprehensive fall protection plan not only saves lives and money, but is also required by OSHA.

Providing a safe work environment begins with analyzing fall hazards and eliminating them. If the hazards can not be engineered out, the next step is to determine which fall arrest system is appropriate.
